About
Heritage Run Horsemanship exists to share our God-given love of horses and the Parelli philosophy of successful partnership-based training. We train horses – of any age, breed, or specialty, and humans – of any background, level, or discipline to excel as partners.
Currently based in Southeastern Arizona, Heritage Run Horsemanship began in 2008 on a little farm in Jamestown, Ohio. This vision grew out of a heartbeat of a little girl who loved horses, and after 20 years of dreaming, came to life through the support of her husband Dennis and her extended family. In fact the name “Heritage Run”, is a statement of desire to build a business that honors the principles and heritage of both our families and our faith.
The founders and owners of Heritage Run Horsemanship, Juli and Dennis Piovesan, met back in 2002 while they were both volunteering at a Christian horse camp in Ohio. Married in 2004, they bought their first farm in 2006 while Juli was pursuing her degree in Agriculture with a focus on Equine Studies. Juli spent the majority of her 20s gaining experience in various aspects of the horse industry, as a Veterinary Assistant to a large animal vet, traveling as a groom and then barn manager at a competitive eventing farm and then dressage barn, and teaching horsemanship at an alternative education program for at-risk youth.

Discovering Parelli Natural Horsemanship in 2007 (after a spunky 2 year old revealed what she didn’t know she didn’t know), she was hooked. The program was simple (but not necessarily easy!) and brought amazing results. The horse she couldn’t lead from the barn to the pasture was now willing and teachable. Partnership based training became her life pursuit. Now a 3* Instructor and Horse Development Specialist, Juli earned her rating as a Licensed Parelli Professional over a decade ago and has been pursuing excellence in her personal horsemanship and as a teacher and coach ever since.
For continued education in 2017, Juli returned to the Parelli campus for a year long internship with Pat Parelli during which time she was invited to stay on staff as Pat’s Performance Barn Manager and Mastery Program coordinator for incoming Parelli Professionals. Dennis then joined her as Facility Manager for both the Florida and Colorado campuses where they worked together until relocating back to Elgin, Arizona in 2020.

Born in Papua New Guinea as the son of second generation missionaries, Dennis is about the handiest husband and down to earth partner you can imagine. He’s an instrumental part of Heritage Run Horsemanship, filling roles from facility manager, to full-time support team member, to trailer maintenance man and everything in between.
Although not a big fan of arena riding, he enjoys hitting the trails, moving cows and any sort of adventure whether it be camping out or traveling cross country with the horses. Dennis owns and runs his own construction company, Living Stone Contracting, specializing in custom renovations here in Southern Arizona.

The remaining members of the Heritage Run Horsemanship Team all have 4 legs and are an integral part of the farm and the Piovesan family. You can’t be around Juli for more than a few seconds without meeting or hearing about her most amazing canine companion, Peppy dog.
As for the equine family members, they are Juli’s greatest teachers - beginning with her first horse Ames whose memorial resides at Heritage Run Horsemanship in Arizona to her newest partners who are just beginning the journey together. Juli’s main ride for the past 6+ years, Savvy, is well known for her dependable yet sometimes opinionated horsenality and for surviving and thriving after a perilous colic surgery during a teaching trip back to Ohio in 2017. Savvy has taught Juli more than any other horse, traversed the country with her more times than we can count, and helped to inspire and teach countless students and horses, providing a level of partnership and companionship many only dream about.
